Fall Volunteer Opportunities


Volunteer work takes place at the Fehr Avenue Neighborhood Garden in Schenectady (located adjacent to Central Park, across from the Park View Cemetery) on Mondays and Thursdays from 10:00 am – 12 noon throughout the fall.

(Work is held in rain or shine. Volunteer hours will be cancelled, however, when it’s a total downpour or during thunderstorms.)

No previous farming experience required.
Please bring a water bottle, and expect to have fun!

Community Potato Harvest

Members of the community are invited to harvest potatoes on Tuesday, September 29, 2009 from 10:00am to 12noon at the Vale Cemetery Potato Field in Schenectady - all ages welcome.

Please use the Vale Cemetery Brandywine Avenue entrance - plenty of parking available (do not use the State Street entrance).

Garlic in Your Backyard
Affectionately known as the “stinking rose,” garlic is a tasty, nutritious plant easily grown in the Capital Region.
In this informative course learn how to grow it yourself.

The class covers: seed selection, garden preparation, planting, fall and spring tending, harvesting, curing, and storage.

Cost: $20 (includes 1 lb. seed garlic)

Registration is limited to 20 participants.
