Food Film Fest
September 20 - "Eating Alaska" - What happens to a vegetarian who moves to the last frontier?
After the screening join us for a discussion with
Neil Eklund and Jennifer Wilkerson,
grass roots organizers of Schenectady Greenmarket,
about the joys and challenges of eating locally.

Neil Eklund spent about half of his youth traveling around rural Alaska with his father via boat, dogsled, and log raft. He lived there variously as a subsistence hunter and fisherman, walrus ivory trader, and pizza delivery driver.

Jennifer Wilkerson grew up in the New York City suburbs, tending her family’s large garden and raising chickens and ducks. Her sister’s occupation as an organic dairy farmer inspired Jennifer’s interest in pursuing truly healthy, nutritious foods. Despite being a long-term CSA member, her family has radically changed the way they shop in the past 18 months. Most all vegetables, fruits, breads, milk, yogurt, cheese, and eggs are bought at market (or from a CSA); she grows tomatoes and herbs on the front steps; a year-old freezer in the basement is full of local food for the winter.

October 4 - "Black Gold" - Explaining the truth behind your cup of coffee

After the screening please join us for a discussion with
Sally Ewart, Starbucks Store Manager, and Marc Renson Co-owner of Ambition Café and author of “Is the Coffee Fresh?” about fair trade coffee.

October 11 - "The World According to Monsanto" - From dioxin to genetically-modified crops

Location:
Schenectady County Public Library
McChesney Room
99 Clinton St Schenectady
Movies at 2:30 pm, discussion to follow
Free admission - Donations appreciated
